Teddy and the Rough Riders / Lonnie Baker Brooks

So last weekend, Saturday to be exact, I went to Trader Joe’s for the  first time in a long while. Since the trip takes about 25 to 30 minute I decided to listen to a couple of new albums on Spotify. On the way there, I listened to Down Home from Teddy and the Rough Riders, While the soundtrack on the way back was Blues in My DNA by Ronnie. Baker Brooks. I had listened to tracks from  both albums earlier in the week on walks with my granddaughter. Anyway, here’s what I thought of the albums Read More

Livingston Taylor – a Long Time Favorite Revisited

Livingston Taylor album cover

So all this writing about older albums that I don’t have in my library  has made me think about favorite albums I do have and have loved and listened to for years. Well, today I decided to listen to one of those albums I’ve loved for years.  I gave Livingston Taylor’s self-titled debut album. And I still love it after 54 years! Now Liv’s brother James’ Sweet Baby James album came first and was played a lot. I bet Liv’s album has been played more over the years. Read More

Zac Harmon was great! The Run not so much

Floreada's Boy- Zac Harmon cover

So more and more I am going to make this more a true Weblog! And by that I mean I’m going to make it more about what’s happening in my life, I will still be writing about books, music and turning back my biological clock. However, I usually struggle with analyzing why I like a book or even an album, so I have a hard time writing a review type post. I don’t like to write a complete analysis of each song on an album or a deep analysis of each book i read. I like to write a little about what the book is about, along with a little about the author. Hopefully, the posts I write may lead the reader to a new author or musician! With all that being said let’s see what happened today! Read More

Trying to Get My Bloggin MoJo Back!

Emma

Ok so the last year has been a blur. I had a couple of health problems that upset my life. First, there was a problem with my left eye. When I closed my right eye and only used my left eye, every thing had a gray cast to it, rather than the true colors. That problem sent me to an ophthalmologist who didn’t;t know what the problem was. So she sent me to a retina specialist who also wasn’t sure what caused the problem. Fearing I had some kind of mini-stroke he sent me to my family doctor for blood work and a cardiologist,The cardiologist was asked to perform an echo cardiogram and the ultrasounds for my carotid arteries. Both were fine no blockages anywhere. The cardiologist also had me wear a heart monitor for several weeks. At that time I was still running and everything again was good. So it was back to the retina specialist. Read More

Midnight Creed - Alex Kava
Midnight Creed (Ryder Creed #8)

Midnight Creed  is the 8th book in Alex Kava’s Ryder Creed series  The series was a spin-off of Kava’s Maggie O’Dell series. Since Maggie and her FBI colleagues are an intricate part of the Ryder Creed series, I’m going to call this book book 19 in the Maggie O’Dell has targeted homeless people up and down the east coast. While Ryder  and his dogs are searching for a missing boy. Additionally, Ryder and his staff are awaiting a shipment of K9s that were left behind when our troops left Afghanistan. Read More Read More

Looking Back: Jimmie Spheeris – Isle of View

Isle of View - Ji,,ie Spheeris

Ok so today on the Record Collectors Facebook  Group a member asked people to dig into their collection and post an album that is  unknown and/or obscure. Well, I have many vinyl albums that fit that description! And many more CDs that do also! However the album I decided to listen to and write about is the debut album from singer-songwriter Jimmie Spheeris Isle  of View. (Say it three or more times fast). Anyway the album has been one of my favorite quiet night albums since I bought in in the early 70s! However, I think Jimmie’s music has largely been forgotten because his career was cut short by a tragic accident. From Wikipedia…

Spheeris died at the age of 34 in Santa Monica, California, when his motorcycle collided with a van at 2 a.m. on the morning of July 4, 1984. The driver of the van, Bruce Burnside, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and felony vehicular manslaughter. Read More

While in other cases I’ve listened to different subgenres. The different genres include some EDM with a psychedelic bent. While the subgenres include Desert Rock and Space Rock.

Greg Trooper – Day 9 – 30-Day Folk Challenge on his Birthday!

Greg Trooper - Straight Down Rain Day 9 - Folk Music Challenge

Today January 13,2021 would have been singer-songwriter Greg Trooper’s 64th birthday. Unfortunately for the music world he died two days after his 61st birthday in 2017. The cause of the death was pancreatic cancer.

Greg Troop was a fellow New Jerseyian. He was born on January 13 in 1956 iin Neptune Township, New Jersey. He was raised in nearby Little Silver.

I  started today listening Straight Down Rain, which found it’s way into my music collection around 1999. I remember I found the album in the discount bin at Tunes,  which was our go to CD store at the time.

His prior release Popular Demons which had been released  in 1998, quickly was added to my music library. Popular Demons had been released on Koch Records and was produced by Buddy Miller.

All total Greg Trooper released thirteen albums. Three of those albums were live albums.

After I listened  to =&0=&for the first time in a long time, I listened to songs from several of Trooper’s other albums.  Of Trooper’s thirteen albums here are the five that are in my music library….

Final Thoughts

So far this 30-day challenge has been  very rewarding. personally. It has given me an opportunity to listen to many albums that I haven’t heard for too long a time! In addition, I have a renewed interest in searching out new Americana, and Folk music.

Likewise, because I was looking for old vinyl albums I have organized those albums by genre, so now I know where all my folk albums can be located, as well as, my jazz and rock albums! so maybe there’s a 30-day classic rock and jazz challenge in the future. Stay Tuned!
