On February 26, 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas, the fourth child of Ray Cash and Carrie Cloveree,, J.R. was born. When J.R, joined the Air Force he was told he couldn’t use just initials, so he used John R. Cash. I loved Johnny Cash’s music from the first time I heard :”Ring of Fire” There are many Johnny Cash albums in my vinyl collection including the live albums from San Quentin and Folsom Prison,, Additionally, way back when, I always tried to watch his television show!
So, what music should we play on John’s birthday? Well of course there’s “Folsom Prison Blues”, how about “Girl From the North Country”, that always is rattling around in the jukebox in my mind?, “Busted” worked for me for many years! Ah, a great one would be “Jackson” a duet with his beloved wife, June. How about on I haven’t heard for a long time “The Highwayman” What better way to celebrate Johnny’s birthday than to watch him perform with Willie, Kris and Waylon!!
