Yesterday was a fairly nice spring like day with a high temperature in the mid 50s. So getting the running spring fever, I decided to go for a slow walk/run. I also decided to limit myself to whatever I could do in 30 minutes.
Ok so even though I have not run since the first week in November of 2020, I have been working out on a regular basis. Three days a week I usually do a 50-60 minute Cardio workout that burns around 400-500 calories. On the off days I do yoga. I have a 30 minute Hatha routine I usually do. lately thoug I have been doing a Kundalini yoga Kriya, at least one day a week. As a result my weight is about 3 pounds shy of my optimal running weight.
The Run
Anyway, I set off yesterday for my slow walk/run. I started off slowly and didn’t feel too bad. So the walk/run became a slow run. I maintained fairly slow but steady pace and ran the first mile in a surprising 11:31! By the mile and a half mark my pace was around 11:45 and it stayed like that for the rest of the run I ended finishing a 2.8 mile run at an overall pace of 11:47 min/mile pace, pleasing me very much! Here are the nerdy details.

The Soundtrack: High Strangeness by Mothership
The soundtrack for the run was Mothership’s 2017 release High Strangeness. According to their biography at Heavy Psych Sounds Records Mothership is a:
Supersonic intergalactic heavy rock trio Mothership based out of Dallas, Texas give a real sense of hope that all is well in the universe, and that pure honest rock and roll has once again returned to this planet on a mission to unite true believers.
Based on what I’ve heard so far from the band, I totally agree with the above.
The band is comprised of:
Kyle Juett – bass/lead vocals
Kelley Juett – guitar/vocals,
Judge Smith – drums
Again from the bio at their record label…
……these guys have created a unique sound that satisfies like a steaming hot stew of UFO and Iron Maiden, blended with the southern swagger of Molly Hatchet and ZZ Top, paired with a deadly chalice of Black Sabbath.
For years I have been searching for bands who play the type of rock I grew up with and still love. Well, like the these guys produce that type of music!
