Toronzo Cannon Keeps Me Upbeat on My Run/Walk

Toronzo Cannon - Shut Up&Play cover

So, as I’ve written previously over the last year, particularly from September to June I only ran sporadically. And I’ll tell you that the summer is not an easy time for this 73 year old to start over! Anyway the way that I am trying to restart my running is by both running and walking, Basically, I’ll run about a half mile and then walk a quarter mile and keep that switching going for about 30 minutes or more. It also turns out to be running until my heart rate gets up to about 140 bpm and then walking until it drops back to 110 bpm or lower. The Runs Anyway I ran last Friday 7/26 I covered 2.09 miles in 32:27 for a 15:30 /mi pace. Overall, I ran for 14:45 and walked for 17:41. On Sunday I did a little better. I covered 2.68 miles in 39:36 for an average pace of 14:46/mi. The good thing was that my time running was 21:29 and walking time only 18:04. In addition on Friday my average heart rate was 117 BPM  and my max heart rate was 1369 bpm, While on Sunday my average heart rate was 125 bpm with a maximum of 151 (‘ during my old man sprint at the end – lol.  So I know it will take some time to get back running fairly well, but at least if I improve on each run I’ll be happy! The Latest from Toronzo Cannon Highlights My First Run in Two Weeks

The Preacher, Politician or the Pimp - Toronzo Cannon

So the other day I looked back at my Fitbit workout log and saw that the last time I ran was November 6th. The reasons for not running are numerous, cod weather, windy weather, and rain days. However, the main reason may be increased babysitting of my grandson Logan and granddaughter Zoe.That may also be a convenient excuse for being lazy! Anyway this morning the temperature was in the low 40s with no wind or rain. A look at forecast for tomorrow indicated that it was supposed to be a little colder a a little windy. So today was the day. I decided I would just run my standard 5K course and I had to tell myself to go slow! The run was my first in two weeks so just take it easy and enjoy the run. Of course that is what semi- happened. I ran the first mile a little too fast. But I was able to cut it back on the next two miles and I didn’t struggle very much.  My warm-up was a little different though, as it included, a workout that included some Dance-Cardio and Yoga. The work was done between taking (and bringing back) a load of laundry to the laundromat Anyway, here are the Nerdy Details of the Run…… The Nerdy Details Total Distance: 3.18 miles  Total Time: 32:40  Pace: 10:16 min/mile Mile Splits: Mile 1 – 10:15 Mile 2 10:15 Mile 3 10:31  Mile 3.18 9:12 Avg HR 138     Max HR…

Toronzo Cannon Powers My Fastest Run Since June

The Preacher, Politician or the Pimp - Toronzo Cannon

Toronzo Cannon Powers My Fastest Run of Last Three Months So sometimes as a runner you have to plan around of activities. Today I wanted to run but I also knew I wanted to do a load of laundry at the laundromat and make a trip to Trader Joe’s. I also wanted to be home before the Eagles game at 1:00. The solution was to get up before 7, meditate for 15 minutes, then take the laundry. Since the laundry takes slightly less than 40 minutes, I had time to come home and do a 20 minutes Cardio-Yoga warmup. The cardio to get my heart working and the yoga to stretch out. After  bringing the wash home to dry it, I was ready to run. My initial thought was to run 4 miles today, but considering the time it would take to run. then cool down and shower, I settled on running a 3.1 mile course. It was a nice morning for running. Temperatures were in the high 50s and it was overcast. I chose the 5K I’ve been running for 95% of the year. For years I ran with only a stopwatch on courses measured by my car’s odometer. I knew where the mile and half-mile marks were and would judge my pace using them. Now I have the GPS on both my iPhone and my Fitbit Blaze.   The two rarely agree. Even on the iPhone somedays the miles are shorter, somedays longer. Today the first half-mile was  little…
