So the Safari didn’t have to travel far this week as I’ve been listening to Pan: An Urban Pastoral from the Pittsburgh based band Persephone’s Dream. From the ProgArchives……
Claiming influences like RUSH, GENESIS and OZRIC TENTACLES, Pittsburgh,PA band PERSEPHONE”S DREAM (named after a Greek myth) was formed initially in 1993 by guitarist Rowen POOLE and bassist Christ SIEGEL. The duo drafted an intern named Judilynn NEIDERCORN to sing vocals and recorded the band’s first album, ‘Evening Mirage’, in Rowan’s dining room. Although the album was not released until 1997, it gained some radio play and a cut off the record was used on a U.S. soap opera. Read More

Exquisite is the word to describe such an impressive album. A 2010 masterpiece.
It’s very difficult to describe the album. I will start saying what this is NOT. This is not heavy prog, not even close; this is a pure and simple (well, not that simple) symphonic prog with a lot of folk elements. Yes, there are a lot of conceptual albums and maybe this album is not groundbreaking, but the way this band aboard the concept, the care of every little detail, and the impressive extension of different styles and arguments worth the listen.
5 stars. A total masterpiece that I hope people won’t overlook. “Come- I’ll sing to you the Chaosong.”.Full Review.
With each listen I like this album more and more and I do love the “Chaosong”!!
So here’s some lunchtime music from the album Pan: An Urban Pastoral “The Invocation and Pan’s Labyrinth”
