Silent Creed – Alex Kava

Ryder Creed and Maggie O’Dell Team Up Again in Alex Kava‘s Silent Creed

So in the midst of all the goings on over the last week I did manage to finish my second book in October. It helped that the book, Silent Creed from Alex Kava was a real page-turner!! Silent Creed is the second book from Kava to feature dog-handler Ryder Creed and so far it has been a wild ride!! In Silent Creed Ryder is teamed with FBI profiler Maggie O’Dell for the second time. The initial pairing of Creed and O’Dell was in the thriller Breaking Creed. Maggie has been a favorite of mine through eleven thrillers!

In this episode Ryder and Maggie are both called to a research facility in Haywood County, North Carolina. The government research facility and the surrounding area has been devastated by a major landslide resulting from torrential rains. Creed was called to find any survivors and when one of the bodies found is a scientist who has been shot, Maggie is sent to find out what;s going on!! Working under perilous conditions, from the weather and those who don’t want their crimes discovered Maggie and Ryder are soon fighting for their lives!!

Alex Kava is a news junkie and has written a novel that includes events that mirror real-life situations, In Silent Creed the events include the use of dogs to search for survivors of earthquakes and the accompanying landslides. In the Author’s Note Kava mentions reading about the dogs and handlers who work with the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. The Search Dog Foundation has deployed dogs around the globe includes the earthquake in Nepal which took the lives of 2,500 people and in Joplin Missouri after the tornado in Joplin, Missouri in May of 2011. You can read about more the disasters where the dogs were deployed here. In both of the Creed novels Kava has done a great job of educating the reader about the work that dog handlers and their dogs do. Oh and I love Ryder’s little dog Gracie!!

Additionally, Kava many times weaves  historical facts into her books, In Silent Creed she provides information about US government testing on innocent soldiers, citizens and even school children. Tests were conducted in several cities around the US in the 50s and 60s. Very interesting stuff!!

Bottom Line: Silent Creed is a great read An interesting storyline that kept me turning the pages, with great characters. The sexual attraction between Maggie and Ryder continues to intensify and I can’t wait until the third book in the series Reckless Creed is released. So check out Ryder and Maggie or just Maggie alone, well she’s not alone there’s Gwen and Ben and her boss’s at the FBI and some serial killers you wouldn’t want to met up with…. any check out the Maggie O’Dell series!!!

 Book 41 of 2015!!
