Road to Jerusalem – Road to Jerusalem
Yesterday was Day 5 of my New Musician Challenge and, while I did listen to some new music, I didn’t get a chance to write anything. The Road to Jerusalem was a little more hard rock than the bands that are usually in my music rotation. However, based on what I’ve heard from The Road to Jerusalem (RTJ) I may be checking out a few of those bands that are listed as Related Artists on their overview page!!
The Band
Anyway, RTJ is an experimental rock band. The band is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, but the musicians in the band are from several countries. Vocalist Josh Tyree is from the US. Guitarist Michael Skovbakke is from Denmark as is drummer Per Moller Jensen. Bassist Andreas Holma hails from Sweden.
While their self-title album is The Road to Jerusalem’s debut album several of the band members have been active in other bands. Andreas Holma is an ex-member of Hypocrisy and currently plays in Scar Symmetry. He has also worked as a session bass guitarist in Soilwork. Per Moller Jensen has moved from Invocator to Konkhra and finally landed with The Haunted.. He has played with The Haunted throughout most of that band’s existence. Michael Skovbakke was also in Konkhra but not at the same time as Jensen.
The name Road to Jerusalem was chosen to express the idea of a long journey, that is not a physical one but rather an emotional one. Road to Jerusalem is a path to one’s own life towards the center of the struggles that each one of us encounters.
The Music
As I was listening to The Road to Jerusalem, I was trying to categorize their music. It didn’t seem to be as heavy as heavy metal. And it wasn’t light enough to be prog rock. And it didn’t have the tempo changes that are typical of prog. It actually reminder me more of the music of the 70s and 80s According to the band’s website the band
….. is creating a peculiar sound: heavy music that swings and grooves, winking at emotional expression
Anyway, however you want to classify it – I like!! So Check Them Out!! Now after The Road to Jerusalem ended the band that came on next was Audrey Horne I listened to a bit of their latest release Blackout and I think I may have found a future new musician to post about!!!
