This morning I want to start writing about the CDs that I found at Goodwill last week. First up is the album Graham Nash David Crosby.
I have a always thought the harmonies of David Crosby and Graham Nash were special. They were obviously an important part of the sound of Crosby, Stills, Nash and sometimes Young. From Wikipedia:
While I browsed around the Internet to discover what happened on past January 2nds, I discovered today is the birthday of Chick Churchill. Chick is a member of Ten Years After one my favorite bands from the 60s and 70s. Churchill was/and is the keyboard player for the band. The other original band members included guitarist extraordinaire Alvin Lee, bassist Leo Lyons and drummer Ric Lee.
Yesterday was supposed to be a running day. And like a true hard-core runner, I wimped out because it was too windy. There are several conditions under which I will not run. First I don’t run in the rain. My glasses do not have wiper blades and rainy conditions are. It good for me! Second, I see no reason to run when the temperatures are below 30 degrees. Nor do I run at night! And finally, when it’s really windy.
Ok so this isn’t woo woo weird it does to me seems the odds for this happening seem fairly low! This morning I was listening to a Throw Way Back Playlist that I made sometime last year.. The Steve Miller Band’s song “Quicksilver Girl” from the band’s second album Sailor is in the playlist.

Back when I started this blog way back in 2010 my yearly wall calendar r was Rock Roots: Avalon Ballroom Posters 1966-1967. The calendar has twelve classic posters advertising concerts at the Avalon Ballroom during those years. For each month it also lists how was playing at the Ballroom on the various days of the month For me it was a great calendar and I still like looking at it, which is what I did yesterday (August 19) when we came home from vacation.
Two rock icons from the 60s and 70s have celebrated birthdays yesterday and today (August 20th) First, yesterday rock drummer Ginger Baker celebrated his 78th birthday and today Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame celebrates his 69th birthday
I was thinking about music in the late 60s and early 70s this morning.My thoughts quickly turned to one of my favorite bands, Pearls Before Swine. During those years the underground music scene was exploding. Typically AM commercial radio stations played pop music that was singles oriented. Underground music was album oriented and the tracks played were usually much more complex and longer. As the popularity of underground music grew several Philadelphia radio stations adopted the underground music format. Both WDAS and WMMR made the switch.To me the beauty of the format was the ability of the DJ to play just about anything HE wanted to play. WIBG’s DJ Hy Lit led the transition on WDAS and Dave Herman and his Marconi Experiment paved the way at WMMR.
