Five Great Jazz Finds at the Princeton Record Exchange

So for the first time in a long time, my son and I made a trip to the Princeton Record Exchange (PREX) I believe it’s our first of 2020. Of course, the pandemic was a major reason for the length of time between our visits! Anyway, the five albums shown above are part of of the haul I brought home. All total, I bought eight albums for less than twenty dollars!
This Day in Music January 23, 1943 – Happy Birthday – Gary Burton!!

On this date in 1943, the great vibraphonist and one of my favorites Gary Burton was born in Anderson, Indiana. Whenever I have “One of those days” it’s usually Gary Burton’s vibes that calm and relax me. Here is some background information on Burton from Wikipedia:
Thoughts of Ten Years After and Chick Churchill on His Birthday

It’s Chick Churchil’s Birthday – January 2nd (1946)
While I browsed around the Internet to discover what happened on past January 2nds, I discovered today is the birthday of Chick Churchill. Chick is a member of Ten Years After one my favorite bands from the 60s and 70s. Churchill was/and is the keyboard player for the band. The other original band members included guitarist extraordinaire Alvin Lee, bassist Leo Lyons and drummer Ric Lee.
Tinsley Ellis Kicks off an Eclectic Music Day

Morning MusIc from Tinsley Ellis
The other day I was listening to Bluesville on Sirius-XM hoping to find some new blues music. Rather than finding new music I rediscovered an old favorite. Summoning the Muse Summons Up A Good Time!

Summoning the Muse – Incendio
Several years ago while I was searching through the used CDs at The Princeton Record Exchange, I came across a CD by Jim Stubblefield. I had never heard of Jim. But the album , which was titled Inspiracion had a picture of a guy playing a guitar. That was good enough for me to take a chance on the album. At $1.99 how could I go wrong? I didn’t the album was terrific and I became a fan!
Encantado – Jim Stubblefield

Encantado – Showcases Jim Stubblefield’s Guitar Wizardry!
So last week while I was reading Richard Laymon’s No Sanctuary I was also listening to Encantado the latest album from flamenco guitarist Jim Stubblefield. I stumbled on Stubbefield’s music on a trip a few years ago to the Princeton Record Exchange. On that trip I bought his 2007 release Inspiracion and really liked it. I haven’t listened to it enough lately. I used to listen to a lot of flamenco guitar, when I was writing reports at Lippincott. Sadly, I haven’t been doing at all lately!!
A Musical Visit to Cappadocia with Jeff Johnson and Phil Keaggy
Cappadocia – Jeff Johnson and Phil Keaggy
Along with Timothy Wenzel’s Running Away, Cappadocia by Jeff Johnson and Phil Keaggy has been in my music rotation for several weeks now.
Cappadocia is the third recording as a duo for Jeff Johnson and Phil Keagqy. The inspiration for the album is Cappadocia, a visually spectacular area in central Turkey. Christians have regarded Cappadocia and the surrounding area, as a place of great spirituality for several thousand years.
