The Safari Travels to Poetry Texas and takes that Last Train to Amsterdam – Happy Birthday Ray Wylie Hubbard!!

Cross-posted from Me, Myself, Music and Mysteries.

Today was a very hard day out in the field lugging around the nuclear density gauge to test the density of the backfill being placed, above the pipe and below Tuckerton Road, during the emergency repair of the dam at Sioux Lake. The Safari Re-discovers the Progressive Bluegrass of Lansing’s Lindsey Lou and the Flatbellys!

Ok so today the Safari travels Michigan and rediscovers a band that I first listened to about a year ago Lindsey Lou and the Flatbellys.  From their website:

Hailing from all corners of the Great Lakes State of Michigan, Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys are giving a nod to American traditional music, while boldy taking their own songs in new directions.  Distinct vocals, tight harmonies, instrumental expertise, and creative arrangements are all essential characteristics of their unique sound.  The group focuses on the original tunes of Lindsay Lou Rilko, which include true-life tales of bank-robbing aunties, moonshinin’ grandpas, and celebrations of love, life, and nature. It’s an infectious vibe that could only have been born in the heart of America’s Fresh Coast! Full Bio. Read More

Thoughts of Tomorrow’s Pending Test and Pie for Breakfast!!

Intelligence TestOk so tomorrow for breakfast, I need something that will ignite my meager mental faculties! You see tomorrow my daughter who is in graduate school at the University of Delaware, majoring in Educational Psychology, will be giving me an IQ test! Somehow I think that is illegal and the results should be confidential between her and me and NOT given to her mother!! I don’t think this is going to end well for me!! One of the things I’ll have to do is to listen to a statement and then repeat it, which is not that bad. But then I will have to repeat it backwards. Let’s try it – backwards it repeat to have will I! Hah, a piece of cake! !cake of piece A…Oh I can see all those analogies now – hand is to glove as head is to oven – is that right!! How about this one! Read More
