So yesterday I was checking out this weeks Roots Music Report’s Blues Chart and I saw an album debuting at Number 8 that looked interesting, Tell You What from Jason Elmore and Hoodoo Witch. I went to MOG gave it the 30 second test and quickly put it on the iPhone and have been enjoying it since. Jason is a fine vocalist and a terrific guitarist and the band has put together a really fine album. The albums mixes ballads and rockin’ tunes to constantly keep the album interesting!
The album, is a follows his début album Upside Your Head ,which garnered a lot a critical press! On this album, eight of the tracks area self-penned, and four others are covers: Rory Gallagher’s “Country Mile,” Sean Costello’s “Don’t Pass Me By,” Buck Owens’ “Buckaroo,” and Willie Bell’s “You Don’t Miss Your Water.” The band does a nice job on all the covers! The band, Hoodoo Witch, as usual is Elmore on lead guitar and vocals, Chris Waw on bass, and Mike Talbot on drums. Studio contributors are Suhler (guitar), Kirby Kelley (lap steel), Tommy Young (organ), and Ron Jones (sax).
In Addition to Hoodoo Witch being the Dallas-area backing band for Big Bill Morganfield, son of blues legend Muddy Waters, Elmore has shared the stage with Monte Montgomery, California Guitar Trio, David Lindley, Kim Simmons, and Eric Sardinas as well as Henderson and Suhler.
