Paul Speer – Sonoran Odyssey – A New Favorite!

Yesterday I spent time reviewing the latest Zone Music Reporter Radio Play Top 100. It’s a chart for New Age Music. The title of the album at number 48 was Sonoran Odyssey by Paul Speer. The title was interesting for a couple of reasons first my wind raced from Sonoran Odyssey to Sonora‘s Death Row by Robert Earl Kean. Then the name Paul Speer sounded familiar and I thought I may have listened to his music previously. Read More

What I found, and picked to listen to, was the latest release from Mathew Halsall Salute to the Sun. Read More

Christian McBride Big Band – For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver a Winner

For Jimmy,Wes and Oliver - Christian McBride Big Band

So this morning I decided to listen to some jazz, while I was doing some things around the house. The album I chose was For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver from the Christian McBride Big Band. I generally don’t listen to big band albums. However,  because  this album was obviously dedicated to Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery, and Oliver Nelson listening to it was a no brainer. The Dynamic Duo and The  Further Adventures of Jimmy And Wes are two of my favorite albums. Read More

So I set the iPod to Artist and spun that wheel forward and backward several times. When it stopped it had landed on the New Age/World music duo of Strunz & Farah. I only have one Strunz & Farah CD in my collection and it’s their 1995 release Heat of the Sun.And I really really like the album. I know I have read about the duo before, but have never written about them until tonight. So here goes…. Read More
