So on the ride up to South Brunswick this morning, the soundtrack of the trip was Turquoise, the new album from Devon Allman. Now I’ve heard Devon before on both his album with The Honeytribe, and his work with Royal Southern Brotherhood and I think that this is some of best work. So I continued my exploration of the Echoes Top 25 Albums for April 2013 and stopped at Number 6 William Tyler’s album Impossible Truth Tyler is an accomplished young Nashville guitarist and this is a great, distinctive and original sounding album!! Today the music was just basically background music while I was working, but I am looking forward to listening and drifting maybe later tonight! From William’s website….
So this morning I was scouting out new New Age music at the Echoes website. I looked at the Top 25 albums for April and decided to give the album at Number 2 a listen, Stories From Elsewhere by Rhian Sheehan, It was a good choice! The album was labeled as Electronica/Dance at Mog, but I think the electronic part may be correct, but unless your dance is gently swaying, I don’t think it’s dance music! However, the quiet, beautiful music and environmental sounds was perfect to create a nice musical day at work. When I came home tonight, I went looking for information on Rhian Sheehan since I knew nothing about him. Here’s what I found at his website:
So today is Willie Nelson’s 80th birthday, Happy Birthday Willie! What can you say about this Americana Music Icon, way back when Willie, Waylon and a few others left the Nashville music scene behind for “Outlaw Music”. They blazed their own trails and music is the better for it! I picked up his career after the success of The Red-headed Stranger and Phases and Stages. the soundtrack for Honeysuckle Rose, Willie Nelson and Family Live, Stardust and many other albums are in my collection. I could go on and on about the albums with Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard and The Highway Men albums with Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Waylon and Willie and all the great songs from “Crazy” , “On the Road Again”, “To All the Girls I Loved”, “Bloody Mary Morning” I could keep on going but I know there are lots of places on the web, including Wikipedia, where you can read about them. So I’ll just say again, Happy 80th Willie, we’re all hoping and expecting many more!! With all the songs I could post a million videos, but I’ll go with the combination of Willie, Merle and Townes Van Zandt and “Pancho and Lefty”!
I have feeling that if I were an English major or at least more literature literate, I would love the great novels of James Lee Burke even more than I do presently! Creole Belle is the 19th Burke novel featuring Dave Robicheaux and is Book 14 for 2013 this one took a while to read, mainly because it is rather long (528 pages) and I got distracted by a couple of other books, but when I came back and picked it up about midway through, I zipped right through it, especially over the last two hundred or so pages. Like all the other books it’s a whopping good read!!
So born on this day in 1935 was a very influential blues musician Mr. Otis Rush. Rush is a native of Philadelphia… Mississippi that is! Wikipedia has this to say about Rush…
So one of the albums that’s been on the iPhone for a while and really hasn’t been listened too fully is from the German Prog Rock band Crises. The album is their 2009 release Coral Dreams But tonight I was listening to a mix of tracks on the iPhone and several of the tracks on the album came on and they sounded really good , so I went and listened to a few more and I say I am going to have to give the album a full listen!
