So we all know that since the 2008 collapse recovery has been slow, especially for people, and since Corporations are people how come they are not feeling any pain!! Not only aren’t these faux people not feeling any pain, they are really doing pretty well particularly in relation to the people who work for them. According to the post Corporate Profits Grow and Wages Slide at the New York Times, corporate profits are at their highest levels since 1929 and employer pay the lowest since 1949!!! Consider those dates 1929 was just before the Depression and in 1949 we were just recovering from the war. Anyway the point is that things are NOT going to get better until we shrink the gap between profits and wages!
One of the ways to narrow that gap is to put more money into the hands of the workers. In addition to narrowing the gap putting money into the hands of the people who will spend it and thereby pump up the economy seems like a no brainer!! Except to the corporate Scrooge’s who want to keep all the money to themselves and despise anyone who tries to take their money away. Heaven forbid that they share it with the workers who helped them make it in the first place!!!
So with that said here’s a surprising post from Alternet…….

1. Costco
Costco has long been a leader in social sustainability, starting its employees at $11.50 per hour with an average wage of $21 per hour, not including overtime. Another group of workers who I think are not fairly compensated are Asian garment workers who work for next to nothing in dangerous conditions. However that way be changing at least for some workers!!!
Fashion retailers agree to raise minimum wage in Cambodia
Eight leading fashion retailers have said they are prepared to pay more for clothes made in Cambodia, days after thousands of workers took to the streets of Phnom Penh to call for the minimum wage there to be nearly doubled to $177 (£110) a month.
The brands, which include one of Cambodia’s biggest buyers, H&M, as well as Inditex, owner of Zara, and Britain’s Primark, have written to the Cambodian deputy prime minister and the chairman of the local Garment Manufacturers Association to say they were “ready to factor higher wages” into their pricing.
It follows a day of action in and around the Cambodian capital on Wednesday involving thousands of clothing workers wearing orange T-shirts demonstrating outside factories in their lunch hour. Workers are demanding a significant rise in the minimum wage from the current £62 a month. At one point the army were called out to confront protesters. Read More
