The other day Echoes with John Diliberto issued their list of 25 Essential Echoes CDs for 2013. Atop that list was the album In A Time Lapse, from Ludovico Einaudi, which I finally listened to today. It was a very beautiful collection of music that is a perfect soundtrack for my workday, nice a soothing, just the right sound to help keep me calm and focused!! Not knowing anything about Mr, Eindaudi. I first went to his website, where his biography is in his native Italian. Since I was not using Googke Chrome at the time, I left his website and went searching for information about him elsewhere on the net, at places like WIKIPEDIA – surprised!!
Ludovico Einaudi OMRI (Italian pronunciation: [ludoˈviːko eiˈnaudi]) (born 23 November 1955) is an Italian pianist and composer. After training at the Conservatorio Verdi in Milan and under composer Luciano Berio in the early 1980s, Einaudi started his career as a classical composer and soon began incorporating other styles and genres, including pop, rock, world music, and folk music.[1]
Einaudi composed the scores for a number of films and trailers, including The Intouchables, I’m Still Here, Doctor Zhivago, andAcquario in 1996, for which he won the Grolla d’oro for best soundtrack. During the 1980s, Einaudi expanded his compositional idiom, incorporating elements of popular music and art. In 1988, working with Andrea de Carlo, a well-known Italian writer,Einaudi created Time Out, a multimedia work that the ISO Dance Theatre performed in Europe, the United States, and Japan. Among Einaudi’s subsequent multimedia works is the critically acclaimed Salgari, a collaborative project that included de Carlo, choreographer Daniel Ezralow, and artist Jerome Sirlin. Despite his success as a multimedia artist, Einaudi has continued cultivating more intimate forms, as exemplified by Le Onde (The Waves) (1996), a cycle of meditations for piano on life and the universe that was inspired by various literary texts, including Virginia Woolf’s novel The Waves.

Ludovico Einaudi has become the first classical artist to sell more digital downloads than physical copies with his new album In A Time Lapse.
In its very first week, the album has shattered the 50% barrier, with a massive 72-to-28 split in favour of digital sales over physical purchases. The sales landmark comes just over a year after the Official Charts Company launched the Official Classical Singles Chart; a recognition of how classical music listeners are increasingly shifting from buying physical releases to digital downloads.
The ever-popular composer, whose work has become a ubiquitous feature ofmany independent and major film and TV productions – including Shane Meadows’ This Is England series – is something of digital download pioneer. The only previous classical album to come close to Einaudi‘s latest achievement was the composer’s own 2011 compilation, Islands, which achieved an exact 50-50 digital-to-physical split in its first week of release.
