Blues Wednesday – Roger Hurricane Wilson

So yesterday I noticed an album on the ZenV that I had downloaded one Blues Wednesday and then never listened to it! The album was Exodus the 2008 release from Roger Hurricane Wilson so today I gave it a listen and boy am I glad I did! Exodus is Wilson’s eighth album. His music is electric blues tinged with some Americana but Wilson’s great guitar shines through the whole album! Here’s what some pretty good bluesmen say about Roger:

“That boy knows what he’s doing!”
~ Hubert Sumlin ~

I was there both times… once when Roger
went toe to toe with Stevie Ray Vaughn
and the other time with Albert Collins”
– Tinsley Ellis ~

“Roger “Hurricane” Wilson is the real deal!” ~ Walter Trout

…”solos with the same fire of players such as Jimmy Page, Robin Trower, and other ’70s electric blues gods” ~Blues Revue~

I agree with all of the above Roger Hurricane Wilson can flat out play and he can sing, too. I like tracks like “Honey Hush” and “One More White Boy Singing the Blues” and “You Do Your Job” which all include some good guitar!. But I REALLY love the instrumental tracks like “Tribute to Donny”, “After Hours” and the title track “Exodus” (yes it is that Exodus!). The closing track is an outstanding 16 minute plus cover of “Rainy Night in Georgia” with some great guitar!

You can check out Wilson’s music at his Myspace page.

The 57 year old Wilson was born and grew up in New Jersey and now calls Kennesaw, Georgia home. Since I am only two years older than he is those same events shaped his life as they did mine, from Kennedy’s assassination, the Beatles first appearance on Ed Sullivan to the arrival of “underground” music in 1967-68. Although he was a bigger fan of Duane Allman than I ever was! You can read his full bio’ here

So check out Roger Hurricane Wislon I know that I’ll be listening to Exodus for a while and will download some of his other albums!
