Fireproof – Alex Kava

What’s Happening!

So,far 2013 has not been a great year, I think that I’ve missed more work both at Target and Lippincott Jacobs this month than I did all last year, as I’ve fought this upper respiratory virus. My wife his been fighting the same virus. Then top that with the loss of the son’s brother-in-law Will, and Peter’s wife’s grandfather and well it hasn’t been a great month to say the least!

There are some bright spots though first, my daughter Elizabeth has two interviews this coming week for graduate school, one with a top choice Lehigh and the other with a mid-level choice Rider, on Monday and Tuesday and another with Northeastern in Boston at the end of the month! Second I read six books during the month!

Fireproof – Alex Kava – (Maggie O’Dell Book #10)

Book 6 for the year was the latest Maggie O’Dell book from Alex Kava Fireproof. This is book 10 in the series.  Over this great series Maggie has faced a variety  of antagonists. Maggie has hunted several serial killers and handled teenage suicide bombers. She has even been exposed to the Ebola virus. Along the way, Maggie also  learned of her father’s affair and discovered she had a stepbrother!

In this installment Maggie along with her partner R.J.Tully, and D.C. homicide detective Janet Racine are on the trail of a serial arsonist. In addition, Maggie is still having problems.resulting from being shot in the head during her last case. That case was chronicled in Hotwire.  The case becomes more than an arson investigation,  when the body of a brutally beaten is found behind a dumpster near one of the fires. The question becomes: Is the arsonist the murderer? Maggie doesn’t think so!

Soon the fires start to increase in number and deadliness! Maggie and the crew can hardly keep up with them. But investigative reporter Jeffrey Cole and his cameraman Samantha Ramirez,  always seemed to be able to keep up. They are  always being among the first on the scene. Soon Jeffrey, in addition to investigating the murders, is digging into Maggie’s personal life.. Soon the investigation seems headed straight toward Maggie!

Thoughts about Fireproof

Usually after I finish a book I go to Goodreads.com to see what others write about the book. What I find is that I’m not a very good critic. I don’t think too deeply about a book: Did I like the characters? How about the action? Did the story line plod along or was the action fast paced?, Did the story hold my interest?, Did the suspense build? And in the end. Did I enjoy the ride? The answer to all these questions for Fireproof is a resounding, yes! Was there less profiling in this book? Yes Did the conclusion set up a possible sequel? Yes, but for me that was irrelevant to just a plain old good story!

I’ve always enjoyed Maggie’s characters as she battles the serial demons and her own, which includes her mother! The good thing about this series is that you really don’t have to read the books to enjoy them. So jump in, enjoy the trip and then good back and catch up on Maggie’s life! I know you will!

P.S. This is the third time that I’ve written this post, and hopefully the last!! Damn computer and Internet
