Coming in Hot on a Fast Tuesday Run

Coming in Hot – Coco Montoya Keeps My Tempo Up on This Morning’s Run

Ok I’ve done enough mulling over my thoughts about The Who (will read)  and what (should I write about) concerning  my blog. Enough monkey brain! Just calm down and go back to writing like you have for the last nine years!  That writing got you through some hard times with your job and helped bring you to a good point in your life today!! So whether or not anyone is coming along for the ride, I will try to get back to blogging as often as I can about the books I read, the music I listen to and my attempts to turn back my biological clock!! Speaking of which today was was a running day!!

The Run
Last week on Tuesday I ran 4 miles. On Thursday I ran 3.1 mile. I ran another 4 miles on Saturday. It was my best Running week in a long time. My quests it has something to do with cooler mornings!! Anyway today I decided I would only run 3.1 miles. The reason was partially due to the fact that I had to started my run about an hour and a half later than I normally start a run.

i was t sure how I’d make out when over the rest of the run when I ran the first half-mile in under 5 minutes. But over the next half mile my pulse stayed fairly low and I finished led the mile in 10:05. I ran the second mile a little slower and my overall pace after two miles was 10:17 minutes/mile. Over the last mile I ran slightly slower, but with a good kick at the end I was able to bring my final overall pace down to 10:14 min/mi. That’s my best pace of the last 3 months.

The Soundtrack – Coming in Hot – Coco Montoya
The soundtrack for the run was Coming in Hot the new release from Blues guitarist Coco Montoya. I have been a fan of Coco Montoya’s blues guitar playing since his days with John Mayall. Montoya became a guitarist in Mayall’s newly reformed John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers in the early 1980a and toured with Mayall for ten years. For a portion of the time Walter Trout was also in the band!

If you’re not familiar with Coco here’s what some folks say about him…..

Stratocaster-fueled, fierce slash-and-burn guitar work…dramatic, smoldering Southern soul-rooted intensity. Montoya’s voice is as expressive as his guitar.” –Washington Post

Smoldering blues and southern-fried rock ‘n’ roll with a master touch and killer soloing”
GuitarOne

“An astounding guitar virtuoso and a forceful singer.”
Billboard

Coming in Hot is the eleventh solo album from Coco and it’s a great addition to his discography. Like all of his albums there’s a lot of great guitar and strong vocals. The songs are varied and kept my miles flying by this morning.

As I was reviewing articles for this post I saw that Coco will be celebrating his 68th birthday on October 2nd . That’s a day after I’ll will be celebrating my 68th birthday! So Happy Birthday Coco! So Check Out Coming in Hot !
