Jazz Soundtrack for a Busy Highway!!

November 11, 2015 Soundtrack a Random Mix of Jazz from My iPod!

So this morning on the drive to Paulsboro, I decided that the soundtrack would be a random mix of jazz from my iPod. Typically, when I get done I write down the tracks that I listened to so that I can post them later on a post like this, duh!! Anyway, when I got to Andrew’s to babysit Oliver, I didn’t get to write down the songs before I gave the iPod to Oliver to carry around. Hey, it’s less breakable than the iPhone! By the time I looked at the iPod again the random list was gone.

As best I can remember the soundtrack started with “Boogie Stop Shuffle” from Charles Mingus‘s album Ah Um.That was followed by some Jimmy Smith, then some Lionel Hampton & his Orchestra featuring Wes Montgomery followed by “The Fox” from Wes Montgomery’s album Down Here on the Ground. There was also a track from a Larry Coryell album he recorded with the Wide Hive Players and from Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers album Live at Slug’s. There may have been another track mixed in there, but I can’t remember. But it was a nice mix that made for a pleasant start to the day! I think that my favorite was the track from Live at Slug’s – there was some vintage dynamite Blakey on that track!

I did the same thing on the way back but this time there was no Oliver so here is the soundtrack.

“Self-Portrait in Three Colors” – Charles Mingus – Ah Um

“Double Guatemala” – Gary Burton Six Pack

“All Blues” – Milt Jackson – At the Kosei Nenkin

“The Nice Mailman’s Happy Song to Ann” – The Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet – In a World of Mallets

“Tom & Jerry” – Terence Blanchard – Breathless

“Come Rain or Come Shine” – Art Blakey – Moanin’ (The Rudy Van Gelder Edition)

“Venture Within” – Kenny Barron – Mark Sherman – Interplay

The soundtrack may seem a bit heavy on the vibes, but I was glad about that!! Love the vibes! It was a nice quiet way to end a nice day with Oliver!

Here’s the Soundtrack – since the Gary Burton track was not on Spotify I substituted one of my  favorites from Burton – “Bag’s Groove”….Enjoy!
