New Folk Music from Old Friends

So over the last few years, I’ve drifted away from my musical roots. Between the 1975 and 2014 I listened to primarily music that falls broadly under the umbrella of Americana. I listened to Folk, Blues, bluegrass and Texas music. After about 2014, my musical listening shifted and I found myself listening to more Jazz and New Age with some Prog Rock thrown in the mix. It seemed every time I looked at the Roots Music Report Chart or New Releases Now, I never saw music from the Americana artists I listened to. The only Americana I continued to listen to regularly was Blues.
However, today’s Roots Music Folk Chart contained new albums from some of my favorites! So let’s what new Americana music I can put into my music rotation.

Proposed Music Rotation – Week of March 18, 2024

Jeff TalmadgeBandcamp

I’ll start from the top of the chart and move down. First comes a new album from Jeff Talmadge Sparrow. Next up t’s his first first album since 2011’s Kind of Everything. The album debuted at no.7 on the chart!

Todd Snider- Amazon

Next up at number 11 is the latest release from Todd Snider Crank It, We’re Doomed. This album was released in November of 2023. I think I started to listen to it back then but then didn’t give it a good listen. I’ll try too do better this time.

Red Beet Records

At 23 is the least from Eric Brace & Thomm Jutz Simple Motion. I’m a long time fan of Eric Brace both from his days with Last Train Home and his collaborations with Peter Cooper. Peter has unfortunately passed away, but I look forward to this new collaboration.

Tim GrimmAmazon

Tim Grimm’s release from March 2023 The Little In-Between is next at No. 35. I love Tim’s story songs about people, places and Life in general. Again I don’t know why I haven’t listened to this one!

Town Mountain Bandcamp

Dance Me Down Easy:The Woodstock Sessions is a new 6-song EP from Town Mountain. Damn I haven’t’t listened to them for a long time either! So it’s another one I can’t wait to give a listen.

Matt the Electrician – Matt’s Store

I believe the last Matt the Electrician album I listened to was 2011’s Accidental Thief. Since then he has only released two albums before 2024’s The Ocean Knocked Me Down which was released in February. That album is now at 40 on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Folk Chart.

Now all of the above are albums from musicians I have listened to previously. However, as I went down the chart there were several bands and singers whose music I don’t know, but will give a listen and let you know what I think about their music!

Here’s a new Folk Music Playlist with two Tracks from Each Album!
