Progressive Metal from Philly’s Tungsten – The Reservoir

The Safari did not really travel far today folks, just across the Delaware River to the Port Richmond area of Philadelphia, the city that the new progressive metal band Tungsten calls home! Their debut album The Reservoir was released today, Jan 14th. Tungsten is a progressive metal band whose signature sound according to their biography at their website is.

….dark, innovative, and creative, but still bursting at the seams with classic metal attitude that makes you want to pump your fist in the air. Drawing on influences both timeless (Iron Maiden, Rush, Pink Floyd) and modern (Opeth, Mastodon),

The  band formed way back in the summer of 2011. After playing in and around Philadelphia through the first half of 2012, the band made some line-up changes. First they added Titi Musick (Kandela) on vocals, then bass player Mike Louis (Echolalia, Drive Without, Blueskiesfade). These two artist were added to the line-up holdovers  JT Wieme (Willing Swords, The Rifle, Reverence) on drums, Justin Jones (Apex, Centralia, The Monroe Experiment) on keyboards, and Ben Grossberg and Jeff McCall on twin lead guitars You can checkout their personal biography’s including a lot of personal likes here

I really liked the album, there are a lot of soaring guitar parts coupled with some nice keyboards and throughout the album Titi’s vocals are great! I don’t like growling or what I call Cookie Monste music, but on this album there are only a few places where it is present and on the song “Night Wanders By” it fits the song! My favorite tracks included: “Atmos (Masto) Stoma”, “The Opera House: and the title track!!

So check them out, they are going to go places! But don’t just take my word for it…..Matt Baggins at Two Guys Metal Reviews writes……

These guys have a polished sound and a clear artistic direction, they are not afraid to get down and dirty in the heavy stuff, this is the sort of metal that makes heads explode and children cry. Suffice to say, I see good things happening for these guys, their whole approach to the genre is impressive and I really dig their unique style. Read More
