I have started many posts about books over the last year by writing, this isn’t a book I typically read. I’ve written this so often I’m starting to think that maybe these types of book aren’t as untypical as they used to be! Anyway book 5 for 2021 is The Other Mrs. By Mary Kubica.

About The Other Mrs.

Sadie and Will Foust are a fairly typical American family. They have two kids, she is doctor and he’s a college professor. But an extramarital affair and their son’s problems at schools, have them looking for a fresh start.

When Will’s sister Alice commits suicide and leaves her home on an island off of the coast of Maine to Will, they make the move from Chicago. In addition to the house they also inherit custody of Alice’s troubled 16 year-old daughter Imogen.

Shortly after they move in their peaceful neighbourhood  is rocked by the murder of a young wife and step-mother. Soon Sadie starts looking for the murderer. Is it a mad serial killer targeting residents of the island or is it someone closer to Sadie and her family?? Imogen? Her son Otto?

Thoughts about The Other Mrs….

The bottom line is The Other Mrs was a terrific read and I look forward to see how it’s adapted for Netflix.  I thought the story was exceptionally well -developed and I throughly enjoyed the book, especially the last half when the tension ratcheted up, as all the pieces of the puzzle came together.

The two side stories about a young girl  abused by her step-mother and the stalker and the woman with whom Will had his affair both kept me guessing – who was the killer?

……and Beyond

I mentioned at the top of this post that The Other Mrs. is not the type of book I typically read. However, over the last two months, it is the third such book I’ve read. The other two books were When I Was You by Minka Kent and The Wives from Tarryn Fisher. And I must say I have enjoyed them all!

Oh and there was another that wasn’t quite like these books but again was not my typical mystery or crime read, Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah. So ilas I gaze at my TBR shelf which includes several detective police type mysteries, what should I read next that’s like these books???
