The Safari Explores New Roots Rock -Week of 10/27/19

New Roots Rock Exploration -Week of 10/27/19

So as I try to get back into the swing of posting on this blog I have to admit, even though I haven’t been writing about the books I have read, I have been reading.  While I haven’t been searching out new music.

Well maybe not all music, because I have been keeping up with new blues albums and to a lesser extent new jazz and New Age music. But folk, bluegrass, and roots rock not so much. I keep telling myself that it’s a result of my tastes changing. Maybe that’s a part of it. However, after checking out the Folk and Roots Rock charts at the Roots Music Report. I’m not sure that’s the case. I think it’s just that I have  not been searching out a lot of new music in those genres.

Anyway this morning I checked out both the EuroAmericana Music Chart and the Roots Music Reports Roots Rock Charts I found some interesting albums to add to this weeks music rotation.

Chris Knight – Almost Daylight

At the Euro-Americana Chart, I discovered that Chris Knight (an all-time favorite released Almost Daylight in October 11th. It’s  his first studio album since the release of Little Victories in 2012.Based upon the first listen it sounds  like vintage  Chris Knight and that’s a good thing!

New Roots Rock from Ben Dickey

Ben Dickey – A Glimmer on the Outskirts

On the Roots Music Report I discovered several new albums. First among them is Ben Dickey’s A Glimmer on the Outskirts.

New Roots Rock from JD & the Straight ShotThe Great Divide from JD & the Straight Shot also seems like an interesting album.

New Roots Rock from Jeffrey HalfordJeffrey Halford and the Healers West Towards South is the last of the albums by new artists (at least to me) that I listened to this morning.

Allman Betts Band and Anders Osborne

When I first saw the Allman Betts Band ‘s name I wonder who the band members were.  I knew  both of  the Allman brothers have passed away Duane more than forty years ago and Greg in 2017. And while I was pretty sure Dickie Betts was alive I couldn’t image he was forming a new band.

When I checked out the band, I discovered the lead band members are Gregg Allman’s son Devon and Dickie Betts’s  son Duane. Of the two sons I have listened and enjoyed Devon Allman’s  solo work. Similar to the previously mentioned albums this Down to the River sounded damn good!!

Finally, I didn’t listen to many of of the songs on Buddha and the Blues,  but what I heard I liked. I’ve never been a big Anders Osborne ‘s music but I have like several of his albums particularly his albums Black Eye Galaxy and American  Patchwork.

So here is a soundtrack with a couple of songs from each of the album. Each album will be in my music rotation this week!!
