The Winery Dogs highlight a busy week…..

The Week in Review…..

So things have been a little hectic around here lately. Last week I was able get my Monday run in, but then things got very busy. I worked my normal shift at Target (7 am to 1 pm) and then shortly after dinner we got a call from my son Andrew, his mother-in-law was rushed to the hospital with problems stemming from her diabetes. They needed me to come down and stay with Oliver until they got back from the hospital. I didn’t have to do much because by the time I got there Oliver was asleep and I didn’t hear a peep from him all night. Andrew and Meaghan got home near 12 which was not a problem because I was spending the night, since I was babysitting Oliver on Wednesday!

Oliver, son Nick and I  had a nice day, but when I got home I was beat. Thursday I worked again at Target and then later in the day Andrew and I went to see The Winery Dogs at the Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA, The tickets were a birthday present for me from Meaghan and Andrew! The concert was great, the only drawback was that we didn’t get home until after 12 o’clock which made Thursday a long day!!

Because Oliver’s Nana babysits on Fridays and she was still in the hospital, I babysat Oliver again from  8 am to 6 pm. The downside of Friday was that Nick was not there to give me a break in the afternoon, but Oliver was good and we had another nice day! But once again when I got home my brain was fried – I sat down had some pizza for dinner and then snoozed on and off through two baseball games!!

Saturday morning came around pretty quickly though, because my team leader at Target decided that it would be a good idea if four out of the five guys who work in the market section start work at 6 am!! So I worked yesterday from 6 am to 1 pm! Once again when I was done – I was done!!!

Anyway, when 7 am came around this morning and I was tired and it was 45 degrees, I decided I wasn’t going to run this morning!! I figured I would wait until after the Eagles game. I also decided that a six mile run was not going to happen. I ended up running 4.25 miles!

Friday was the second Friday in a row that I missed my run. The first time was because of the weather and the second because of babysitting. But I have at least run on Sundays.

The week ahead seems like it;s going to be even busier than last week. I will be babysitting Oliver Monday, Wednesday and Friday and working at Target on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Saturday’s workday will again start at 6 am!! Now that means that I will be busy on Monday and Friday, days when I’m usually off and have runs scheduled. So the only thing that will work is moving my two running days to Tuesday and Thursday afternoons – maybe after a power nap!

What I can almost guarantee is that I am most likely not going to feel like writing much at night this week! So  I will try and write posts while Oliver is napping on babysitting days and between my naps on my Target days!!! So much for retirement!!!

The Winery Dogs Concert…

Thursday’s concert was my first visit to the Keswick Theater and I love the venue, great acoustics and seats!! The many of the songs that they played were from the band’s sophomore release Hot Streak. The album was released on October 2nd and thanks to Spotify I had already given the album a quick listen. For those of you who are unfamiliar with The Winery Dogs here is some background from Wikipedia…..

The Winery Dogs is an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles, California, United States, in 2012 by Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen

….The whole band started out as a project. Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan ended one project and were about to start a new one. They needed a lead singer/guitarist to fill the spot. Eddie Trunk heard about this and suggest Richie Kotzen to them. Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen have played together before in a band called “Mr. Big” so Billy Sheehan knew that Richie Kotzen could potentially fill the spot. They got together at a studio in Los Angeles and at the end of the jam session, they had a few skeletons of songs that would appear on the debut album. The band members all felt there was a chemistry between each other so they decided to record an album together. After their first album having success, they released a live concert DVD called “Unleashed in Japan 2013: The Winery Dogs.” Read More

Each of the band members is a master of their instruments and each had a moment to go solo in the concert! The band has that 70s band sound and when asked about the music that has influenced the band Mike Portnoy commented…

…..that they are working towards a classic rock sound, influenced by Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Grand Funk Railroad, as well as newer artists such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Black Crowes and Lenny Kravitz

A band after my own heart – so check them out!! Here’s the title track from Hot Streak. Oh, and thanks Andrew for a great present and night out!
