A Trip to Barnes & Noble – Five New Mysteries!

A Trip to Barnes  Noble’s Bookstore Yields Several New Interesting Mysteries

So my plan was to run again sometime over the last weekend and since I didn’t run Saturday, that left yesterday as my running day! As morning gave way to afternoon, my wife and I went shopping. She went to Home Goods and I went to Barnes & Noble. Knowing that I already have enough on my TBR shelves, I spent the time browsing and writing down the titles of books that peaked my interest. What I typically do after an excursion like yesterday’s, is to first check out the prices of the books at Amazon and then usually checking on the availability of the books at my library! Here are five new mysteries that caught my eye…..

Out of the Blues

Out of the Blues – Trudy Nan Boyce

Assigned to the cold-case murder of a blues musician whose death had been ruled a drug overdose, rookie homicide detective Sarah “Salt” Alt considers new evidence from a convicted felon who Sarah helped put behind bars

The author is a former Atlanta police officer with 30 years of experiences to draw on as she wrote this book. I figure she must know what she’s writing about!

Close Your Eyes - Michael Robotham

Close Your Eyes – Michael Robotham

After six years living alone, Joe O’Loughlin is invited to spend the summer with his estranged wife Julianne and their two daughters. Determined to rekindle his marriage, Joe grabs this lifeline like a drowning man, but soon there are complications.

A mother and her teenage daughter are found murdered in a Somerset farmhouse, one defiled by multiple stab wounds and the other left lying like Sleeping Beauty waiting for her Prince. Reluctantly Joe is drawn into the investigation because another psychologist, a former student calling himself the ‘Mindhunter’ has traded on Joe’s name and jeopardised the

police inquiry by leaking details to the media and stirring up public anger.

Oh, boy a NEW Joe O’Loughlin novel. This is one of my favorite series. Actually, it may be my favorite! I can’t wait and It’s available at the library, well, I’m first in the que for one of the seven copies that the library system has!!

Summit Lake - Charlie Donlea

Summit Lake – Charles Donlea

Set in a small, picturesque North Carolina town, Charlie Donlea’s suspenseful debut novel tells the haunting story of a murdered law school student, the reporter assigned to her story—and the intimate connection that comes when the living walk in the footsteps of the dead.

“No suspects.  No persons of interest.  Just a girl who was alive one day and dead the next.”

Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place, with charming stilt houses dotted along the pristine water. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student, was brutally murdered in one of those houses. The daughter of a powerful attorney, Becca was hard-working, accomplished, and ambitious. Now, while the town reels with grief and shocked residents gather to share their theories, the police are baffled. More at Goodreads

This one sounded really good to me. Checking the library system I see that the book is available at my town library. Hmm, I’m babysitting Zoe today but plan on taking her for a walk, maybe by the library!!

The Blood Strand - Chris Ould

The Blood Strand – Chris Ould

Having left the Faroes as a child, Jan Reyna is now a British police detective, and the islands are foreign to him. But he is drawn back when his estranged father is found unconscious with a shotgun by his side and someone else’s blood at the scene. Then a man’s body is washed up on an isolated beach. Is Reyna’s father responsible? Amazon

This one reminded me of Peter May’s Lewis Trilogy. A police officer returns to his home to solve a crime. If it’s as good as Peter May’s books that wold be great!

I have never read any of the books in the Hap  Leonard series but this new collection of Hap and Leonard stories did catch my attention., maybe because it’s soon to be a series on the Sundance Channel.

Complete with an introduction by New York Times bestselling author Michael Koryta and an original afterword by Joe R. Lansdale, his ownself, HAP AND LEONARD delivers six previously uncollected tales of mayhem, violence, and adventure told in the uniquely Lansdale manner.

Soon to be a television miniseries starring Michael K. Williams (The Wire), James Purefoy (Rome), and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men). More at Goodreads

Now since I  haven’t read any of this twelve book series, I think that maybe it’s best to start with book one of the series – Savage Season.

Savage SEason - Joe R Lansdale

Savage Season – Joe R Lansdale

Start with two best friends who practice martial arts in their free time: one a straight white guy, the other a black gay guy. Add a conniving ex-wife in a blue-jean miniskirt. Throw in half a million in a muddy creekbed somewhere near the Sabine River in East Texas. Add an ex-radical from the ’60s and two naive idealists who want to save the world. Mix them all together in a half-assed plan, season with double-crosses, and then top it off with a hilarious and chilling drug dealer named Soldier. Bloody mayhem a la Lansda Goodreads

Sounds like a winner to me!!

Hmm, this started to be a post about running yesterday, oh well, I’ll tell you about that later in the day!! Now it’s off for a walk with Zoe with a stop at the library!!
