The Matarese Countdown – Robert Ludlum

The Matarese Countdown a Return to the Works of Robert Ludlum

Robert Ludlum - author of The Matarese CountdownI finished The Matarese Countdown (Book Number 37 for 2015) yesterday and it was another good read from one of the masters of the thriller genre Robert Ludlum. The book was one of the last books written by Ludlum, before his death in 2001. Through the 1990s my reading changed from reading political thrillers to mostly mystery series, but  during the 1980s Robert Ludlum’s novels were mainstays of my reading. They were always were thrilling reads, as typically, either one person or a small group of people was out to save the world. They were action packed with very well drawn plots and characters. Ludlum’s descriptive writing style really made it feel like you were part of the action, Ludlum wrote over 27 thrillers. The number of copies of his books in print is estimated between 290 million and 500 million. They have been published in 33 languages and 40 countries Read More

Forest Field – Angels? And Another Four Mile Run

The Melodic Prog Rock of Forest Field Makes Another Four Mile Run Easier!

The Week

So this week has been a busy and stress filled week. Tuesday was a normal work day at Target, but on Wednesday things got a little upsetting. On Wednesday morning, when I arrived at my son Andrew’s house to babysit Oliver, Andrew was still there and wasn’t dressed for work. With my Spidey senses working overtime I asked :Is everything all right? Andrew’s response was no and that he wasn’t going to work. I questioned “Am I staying?” Yes! Soon Andrew and Meaghan were off to Urgent Care. Back in the early winter last year Andrew had severe pains in his lower chest and  upper abdomen but he took some pain medication, the pain went away, and the doctor really didn’t know what the cause was! More recently my third son Peter had the same pains, he ended up in the hospital with an initial diagnosis of pancreatititis. After an endoscopy he was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. Read More

1971 Is It The Greatest Year in Rock??

John Prine’s First Album and Others Make 1971 a Stellar Year – at least for me!!

There were many great albums released in 1971, but, only a few of the commercially successful albums made their way into my vinyl collection. However, a lot of the less commercially successful albums did! Even back then, the music that I sought out and enjoyed was from the albums and artists whose albums, if they were on the charts, weren’t at the top! So let’s take a look at some of the big albums and then some not so big ones, that have been favorites of mine over the years!! Read More

The Greatest Year in Rock was it 1970???

Renaissance Granddad  takes a look at some of his favorite rock from 1970!

The other day when I was writing about my favorite books from the 1970s, I mentioned that I considered my college years (1970-1975) as the greatest years in rock history! After writing that post, I was in the car and heard on the radio that WXPN is asking listeners to vote for what they consider the greatest year in rock music! My thoughts first went to 1971 and then quickly to 1970 then 1969, 68 and 67!! Actually, I think the ten-year period between 1967 and 1977 is the greatest decade in rock music and the five years that I was in college at the University of Florida and the University of Georgia (yes I am a mutt – a Gator DAWG?) maybe the pinnacle years of the decade! So with that being said I would like to take a stroll down memory lane and in a series of posts remember each year those five years! Read More
