So I made a trip to New Releases Now today and took a quick look at the new albums released today (March 23,2019). Among the albums released are three from artists who are favorites of mine. There are five more that I think I’ll also give a listen.
So the question of the evening is should I write a post about today’s run or read some in one of the three books I am currently reading. Pondering on it the first thought that comes to mind is that my 4 mile run today was not all that exciting. My pace over the course of the run was 10:04. A little slower than my last few runs but still pretty good.
Over the last few years one of my favorite blues harmonica players has been Steve Krase. So the other day when I saw his latest release Just Waitin’ on Spotify I knew it would be going into my music rotation. The other morning I decided that it would be the soundtrack for my morning walk.
.So when I listened to “St. Vincent De Paul.” the first track on Ed Romanoff‘s self-titled debut album for the second time on my four mile run tonight, it reminded me of Mary Gauthier‘s album The Foundling. Wait you listened to the song twice! I thought this album must be very short! But, no the run was really long! The ten track album clocks in at about 40 minutes, at which point, I was still a little way from my finish and was struggling along at about 11 minute per mile pace
I may never be able to catch up writing about the various albums I have been listening to over the last three to four months. So I have decided to make a few playlists that will group the tracks roughly by genre. Here;’s what’s on the first one….
Tom Russell’s latest release Folk Hotel has been in my music rotation for a week or so now. And I like the album more and more each time I listen to it. There are few songwriters whose songs send me to Wikipedia to look up references as do Tom’s. As A matter of fact, I was sent scurrying on the first song “Up in the Old Hotel”. The first thing that I went to find out about was who was Joseph Mitchell, whose ghost wanders the halls of Tom’s Folk Hotel. Here’s what I found……
Yesterday’s run was both good and bad. The good was the great picking from The Bucking Mules while the bad was the high humidity! When the start of the run I knew the humidity was bad. It had rained the night rained Tuesday night and weather.com listed the humidity at 90 plus percent. Anyway I decided that I wouldn’t worry about running a shaded route because it was cloudy. I picked the old Creek out and back 4-mile course.
Poets, Philosophers, Workers and Wanderers opens with a terrific song “Let Me Sing You a Song”. And the terrific-ness of the album never stops! The album title s included in the verse of the song. And the song pretty much sums up Jenck’s political philosophy and pretty much mine!
It seems that lately a good portion of the music I listened to is heard on my commutes to Paulsboro to babysit Oliver. Now as best as I can remember Wednesday soundtracks were a blues album Reaching for the Light from the Scottish blues band King King and the afternoon on the afternoon trip a folk album from Canadian folksinger Dave Gunning. The album was Lift his 11th album.
