“Desperados Waiting for A Train” Leads to a Big Oh My!

Desperados Waiting for a Train appears on JJW's Live at Dixie's Bar & Bus Stop

So I took a trip back musically this afternoon and listened to some Jerry Jeff Walker. I listened to his 2012 album Live from Dixie‘s Bar & Bus Stop. The live set is composed  of most my favorite JJW songs.  Among those songs is Guy Clark’s “Desperados Waiting for a Train“.  first heard this song way back in 1973, when it appeared on JJW’S 1973 album Viva Terlingua!  When it played today I shook my head and said oh my! Today in Music – Nov 13, 1946 – Ray Wylie Hubbard is born – Happy Birthday, Ray!!

Today was a very hard day out in the field lugging around the nuclear density gauge to test the density of the backfill being placed, above the pipe and below Tuckerton Road, during the emergency repair of the dam at Sioux Lake. And right now it hurts to even TYPE, and my mind well it’s gone to sleep well before the rest of my body!! But I’ll try to write something and any errors can be blamed on my tiredness!! Read More

Twang Tuesday – Turnpike Troubadours

So today when my downloads on emusic refreshed I downloaded the sophomore  album Diamonds and Gasoline from The Turnpike Troubadours. The Turnpike Troubadors take their name from the bumpy toll roads in their native state of Oklahoma. I had listened to clips from the album the other night and  the band sounded pretty good and after listening to the full songs I’d say they sound damn good! From their website: Read More

No Forgotten Vinyl – Forgotten Tapes

So tonight I didn’t go to the basement and look through the vinyl for something to listen to rather I stayed upstairs and looked through the cassette tapes for some music that I haven’t listened to in a while. The first album that caught my attention was Alison Krauss’ 1990 release I’ve Got That Old Feeling . The album was released when she was a only 19 years old. The album was her second solo release for Rounder Records and her third overall release her second was with Union Station. This is what it says in Wikipedia about the album: Read More

Thursday Mix Part 2

so the during the  rest of the day I listened to some early Greenwich Village scene music Fred Neil’s first solo album Bleecker and MacDougal and an earlier album  Fred Neil  released with Vince Martin entitled Tear Down the Walls. Now most of Fred’s music was released a little before I started listening to folk music in 1968-69 so while I knew of his music and especially loved “Dolphins”. I don’t have any of his albums. But I enjoyed both of these CDs and will probably listen to them both a few more times over the next few weeks. The one song on the album that has been covered several times by several folks including Jefferson Airplane was “The Other Side of this Life”. The other track that I remember when I heard it was “Little Bit of Rain” Read More

Thursday’s Music – Quick Notes

So today was a long day, it’s the first time in a long time that I had some work to do outside! Thankfully, it was a beautiful day but my butt was dragging when I got home! So some quick notes on what was playing on the trip down and back to Carneys Point! On the way down I listened to a little Texas Country – two younger artists that I discovered a while back who I really like Rich O’Toole and Casey Donahew. I listened to O’Toole’s album In a Minute or Two and tracks from The Casey Donahew Band’s two albums Live-Raw-Real in the Ville and Moving On. Read More
