EKReader Picks His Booktube-A-Thon Challenge Books

2018 BookTube-A-Thon Challenge Book Selections

So I’m a 66 year-old man and until yesterday I had never heard about the world of booktubers. The reason may be that the majority of them are young women to whom I could either be a father or grandfather. Anyway as I was exploring  I ended up finding Ariel  Bissett and her BookTube-a-Thon 2018.

My understanding is that the BookTube-a-Thon is a seven-day event that includes seven challenges designed by Ms. Bissett. The participants read books from their “to be read“ (TBR) pile that meet each challenge. Then they create YouTube videos chronicling the efforts.

Now there‘s no way in the world I am going to be able to read seven books in seven days. And then let’s not even think about me making YouTube Videos about my efforts, Now I did think about making a video about my  challenge selections and even did a little practice into my phone camera but I don’t think I’m ready yet. Besides\ who wants to see an old man! Anyway, I will present my books and the accompanying challenges in this post. So here we go……

Challenge One: The Book is the winner of a coin toss between two books.

The coin toss was between The Unquiet by John Connolly whose books I’ve never read. Since this one is on my TBR shelves I want to read it. Likewise, I have never read a book from Liza Marklund. Red Wolf has probably been on my shelves as long as The Unquiet. Red Wolf won the coin toss.

Challenge Two: A Book That Involves Something You Would like to Do

BookTube-A-Thom Challenge Book Two

Since most of the books on my TBR shelves are murder mysteries or thrillers they don’t involve things I would like to do. so I changed in to places I would like to visit. I chose Botswana which has award-winning game reserves. The book is Tears of the Giraffe a No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.

Challenge Three: A Book That was Adapted and made into a Movie

Again there are  not a lot of those types of books on my TBR pile. I did find one Once a Runner by John L. Parker, Jr. Hmm, that also is something that I like to do – run!

Challenge Four : A Book with Green on the Cover

The Man Who Whispered A Doc Adams Book From Rick Boyer I had planned to read this book sometime this year. It’s green cover makes now the perfect time to read the book. I loved the Doc Adams series and don’t know why I’ve never read this last book of the series.

Challenge Five: Wear the same hat while you are reading the book.

My thought was in addition to wearing a hat while reading the book while not read a book from an author who wears a hat on the dust jacket of the book! Th author is William G Tapply Shadow of Death A Brady Coyne Novel. Brady Coyne is a Boston lawyer and gets into mysteries involving his wealthy clients. Coyne also a friend of Boyer‘s Doc Adams and mention of the friendship usually appears in each Brady Coyne book. I can’t wait to see where it’s mentioned

Challenge Six: A Book with a Beautiful Spine.

Once again the types of books that I read typically don’t have artsy spines. Looking over my bookshelf. The book with the most interesting spine was Night of the Jaguar by Michael Gruber.

Challenge Seven: Simple Read Seven Books

To attempt to make that a possibility I chose a really short book Paul Cain‘s Seven Slayers. Cain is a tough guy author compared to Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. And may have in fact been author James M Cain. Anyway it’s short!

Hey, it’s book seven and the title is Seven  Slayers

Final Thoughts

So there they are my seven books to read to meet  the seven 2018 Booktube-A-Thon Reading Challenges. Once again I doubt I will be able to finish all seven books on seven days, but if I finish all seven bu the end of August I would be at 40 books for the year. Now my goal for the year is to read 65 books sooo of I can read another  books or two before the end of July maybe I can get on track to reach that goal! Once again wish me luck!!!
