Reconnecting with… Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers

Last year my son Andrew introduced me to the band Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers he told me he thought I’d like their music. So I went with him to see them at World Cafe Live! and it was a great show. I had downloaded a couple of their albums so I knew some of the songs before the show, but still felt out of place when the show started and all the fans started signing every song! Anyway it was a great show and after the show I kept listening to some of the albums but then I change mp3 players and lost the albums. So this week I downloaded their album Americano and remembered how much I liked the album!

The band hails from Arizona and was formed by Roger Clyne and drummer P.H. Naffah after the breakup of the band The Refreshments. A band that Andrew had liked. The band consists of Clyne, Naffah, lead guitarist Jim Dalton and bassist Nick Scropos. From their website:

Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers are the only independent band to debut in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Internet Sales chart for six consecutive albums, including two #1 entries. Clyne & Naffah enjoyed an accomplished stint with The Refreshments, the late-90s rock band whose cult-classic album Fizzy Fuzzy, Big & Buzzy produced the hit singles “Banditos” and “Down Together.” Clyne wrote and performed with The Refreshments the theme song for the hit cartoon King of the Hill.

Banditos while not on the Americano album is one of my favorites and a song that I had heard before just didn’t know who it was. While Banditos is not on the album there are plenty of other songs that I like including : “Americano”, “Counterclockwise”, “Switchblade”, “Leaky Little Boat”, “Loco to Stay Sane” and “A Little Hung Over For You”. Their music is lively and fun and Dalton adds just the right touch of lead guitar and their live shows are great!

So if you ever get a chance check out a live show. If you can’t catch’em live check out the album Americano or Live at Billy Bob’s or any of the albums at their website. And you know sometimes parents children can be right!

Here’s Roger doing “Switchblade”. Notice the audience singing along!
