Exploring ProgRock – The King of Number 33 – DeeExpus

So this evening I decided to check out some newer Prog Rock than early 70s Genesis and Gentle Giant. Now there’s nothing wrong with either of those bands, I just want to check out the new stuff, too. So I went back to the Prog Archives and looked at the list of Best ProgRock albums of 2010-11 and 12, because the album at number 7 King of Number 33 was released in 2012 and is the second release from DeeExpus. Life’s Soundtrack: A Great Run with a Great Soundtrack from Halestorm!

So the owner of the company that I work has started running, and over the last few weeks we have compared our four mile times. Both of our times have gone down over those weeks. At the end of last week I was feeling good, I came close to breaking 38 minutes over four miles, when I told him, he said “I beat you 37:25!”  Of course he concedes that his running may be a little easier because it’s on the treadmill under perfect conditions! Anyway his times have spurred me on and today I ran one of the fastest times over one of my toughest courses. I hit the first mile in 9:17 and held that pace throughout the run, including the climb up Pancoast! I crossed my four mile point in 36:51, and finished the entire 4.2 mile run in 39:09! Looking back through my workouts it’s probably the fastest I’ve run over that course in the last two years!!  The good thing is that I feel good after the run! Read More

Exploring Prog-Rock and Into the Night with Big Big Train

So my son Andrew came over to me in the market at Target, the other night, when he finished his shift and asked if the track from Big Big Train he had put in my Father’s mix made it to my computer. I told him no, see not all the tracks got transferred to my computer from his thumb drive. He told me that he thought I would like them and that their new album English Electric was getting rave reviews and that it was really good. So last night and today, I have been listening to the album and he was correct in his opinion that I would like them. They are English prog-rock band composed of: Andy Poole / Dave Gregory / David Longdon / Nick D’Virgilio / Greg Spawton.   Read More

Life’s Soundtrack – A better run – music by Prog-Rock band Empty Tremor

Absolutely Live = ^0s Workout Music

ok so I still suck at running but I didn’t really start to feel bad until after the third mile in last nights run so I guess there’s improvement!! But it’s hard to have real improvement until I run more than one day a week!! The lack of running has been a combination of a sore leg and hot temperatures! Overall the run last night was almost a minute twenty faster than last weeks run – about a 10:25 pace! The soundtrack for the run was a prog-rock band from Italy Empty Tremor. Read More

Prog-Rock Exploration leads to the Ruhr Area of Germany and InVertigo!

I guess Andrew started it with his Prog-Rock playlist for Father’s Day and the morning roots remembering continued it and over the last few days I’ve been listening to a lot of Prog-Rock. I’ve already written about one of the bands Dreamscape and today I’ve been listening to another InVertigo. Over the last two days I’e been listening to both of their albums Next Stop Veritgo and their latest release Veritas and I have enjoyed them both. Read More

Life’s Soundtrack – A tough run made better by Dreamscape!

The Run

Well, if long slow running is good for you I did well tonight, at least the slow part! Since it wasn’t blazingly hot today,  and my legs didn’t feel bad, I thought  it was a good night to run.  I was right as far as the temperature, it did got hot in the sun and was ok in the shade, and my legs felt ok throughout, but I was damn slow, at least over the last couple of miles. Overall I completed the 3. mile run averaging 10:47 per mile-ouch!  But hell, I think I’ve run two times over the last two weeks! Read More

Exploring ProgRock – Dream Theater and The Flower Kings

So last night I decided that maybe I would take a look at Andrew’s CD collection and explore the world of progressive rock. Now I knew that in the past I’ve listened to some of the bands in his collection and liked groups like The Flower Kings, Dream Theater and Evergray. First I did Google “Best progressive rock bands”. The results turned up a site with the 100 Greatest Progressive Rock Artists , So looking at the list and comparing the list to bands in my music collection. King Crimson (2), Emerson, Lake and Palmer (4), Jethro Tull (7), Traffic (11), Moody Blues (15) and The Soft Machine (24) are all in my collection so I guess I like ProgRock! Read More
