Life’s Soundtrack – RPWL and Todd Snider!

TAWKI-cover-300Ok so yesterday we had a family gathering to celebrate Easter and Andrew’s 31 birthday, which is today. Anyway about midway through the day, Andrew went upstairs and came down with three albums by RPWL which I mentioned in the other days post about Blind Ego! So on the way down to the job site at milepost 53.9 on the Garden State Parkway, I listened to a mix of RPWL and enjoyed their music. I’ll write more after I’ve listened to the albums a few more times. Read More

Life’s Soundtracks:The run was a struggle but the music from Day Six was great!

Day sixSo some days you really look forward to your run, you start, you feel good and the run goes very smoothly. Then there are other days, well, they don’t go as well. Saturdays area often a slow day for me. I work all day at Lippincott and then at Target not getting done until 11:15 plus! Yesterday the day went from 7:15 to 11:15, so overall today this 61 year-old body was moving kind of slow! So this afternoon when I just felt like taking a nap I did some kundalini yoga trying to wake me up, and it worked so I got motivated enough to run, went out and discovered that it was a lot colder and windy than I thought it was, anyway, I put on another layer of clothes and set out. I had created a new four mile course and the start looped around a little, so that, after just a little bit a left turn would have led me back home, which was where I really wanted to go or a right turn would set me on my way into the fourteen mile an hour wind and the first leg of my four mile run. Now the only thing good about heading into the wind on the first two miles of a run is that the wind is at your back on the way back!! That’s what happened and really the only reason that I was able to finish the run! The other thing that got me through the run was the music, as always! The music was from a prog rock band Day Six and their album The Grand Design. So with the wind at my back for half of the run, I made it through with an overall pace of about 10:05 per mile, so overall it was not a bad run! Read More

Life’s Soundtrack – Cryptic Vision – Moments of Clarity

Cryptic Vision – Heavy Prog – United States

So last Tuesday I had a good run. I averaged under 10 minute per mile pace over the 4.2 mile course the soundtrack for the run was the 2004 release from Cryptic Vision Moments of Clarity. Cryptic Vision is  a progressive rock band from Sarasota Florida. The band was formed in 2003 by multi-instrumentalist/producer Rick Duncan and vocalist Todd Plan. I don’t know if I  got the whole story or not. I do know boy found girl, boy lost girl and his faith. Overall both the music and vocals were, in my humble opinion, very good. But then again what do I know. All I know is what I like and I like Cryptic Vision’s music. It kept me interested and moving throughout my run. Read More

Life’s Soundtrack – ARZ’s Turn of the Tide makes the miles go by!

Turn of the TideWow, two runs in three days! A first for 2013! Tonight I decided that the run would be 4 miles, but I didn’t want it to a run that I usually do, because then I start comparing my times now, with past runs and start thinking, I am old and slow! Anyway, I laid out a 4 mile course slightly different then normal – hey how much can I change it up in a one square mile town!! While it wasn’t the easiest four mile run ever, it really wasn’t, too bad considering how little I’ve run this winter. The pace was just slightly over 10 minutes per mile, which I’ll take at this point in time! Read More

Life’s Soundtrack: A Great Run with a Great Soundtrack from Halestorm!

So the owner of the company that I work has started running, and over the last few weeks we have compared our four mile times. Both of our times have gone down over those weeks. At the end of last week I was feeling good, I came close to breaking 38 minutes over four miles, when I told him, he said “I beat you 37:25!”  Of course he concedes that his running may be a little easier because it’s on the treadmill under perfect conditions! Anyway his times have spurred me on and today I ran one of the fastest times over one of my toughest courses. I hit the first mile in 9:17 and held that pace throughout the run, including the climb up Pancoast! I crossed my four mile point in 36:51, and finished the entire 4.2 mile run in 39:09! Looking back through my workouts it’s probably the fastest I’ve run over that course in the last two years!!  The good thing is that I feel good after the run! Read More

Life’s Soundtrack – Another strong run with music from Joanne Shaw Taylor!

So I came home a little early tonight so that I could get in a run , before we went to see my mom. I decided to run a nice easy 4 mile out and back. The course is a variation on my regular out and back run, the start of the run is different, so I looked at the course on Runner’s World before i went, to see were the turn around point was, I ran the first mile in 9:28 when I crossed  the second mile  and looked at my watch and saw 20:22, and I knew I went a little too far! So that moved the 3rd mile mark but the last mile was 9:52 which wasn’t bad. Overall the 4.2 mile course was completed in 41:32 for an average pace of 9:55 still an improvement over last two months! A slight difference I couldn’t find any running tights so I ran without and right now my legs feel good, we’ll see tomorrow, but last time I ran without them the pain in my knee was immediate! Life’s Soundtrack – A decent run, music provided by Mark Cutler!

So it was a little warm tonight but not too bad, I could have made it an excuse not to run , but I didn’t! I am still slow as hell, but at least I made four miles tonight! My time was like 10:10 pace per mile through the first two miles and then I got slower and slower, I still ended up at 10:26 pace, which was the pace I ran on the last run, but the good thing was that tonight’s run was longer! Now if I can just keep it up and get another run in this week maybe I can start making some improvement!  The soundtrack for tonight’s run was an album that I saw on the FAR Chart last night  tied for 22 with, would you believe 22 other albums, Sweet Pain by Mark Cutler. A little background from his webpage… Read More

Life’s Soundtrack – A tough run made better by Dreamscape!

The Run

Well, if long slow running is good for you I did well tonight, at least the slow part! Since it wasn’t blazingly hot today,  and my legs didn’t feel bad, I thought  it was a good night to run.  I was right as far as the temperature, it did got hot in the sun and was ok in the shade, and my legs felt ok throughout, but I was damn slow, at least over the last couple of miles. Overall I completed the 3. mile run averaging 10:47 per mile-ouch!  But hell, I think I’ve run two times over the last two weeks! Read More

Life’s Soundtrack – A good run with Zac Harmon’s Music is Medicine!

So after last night’s and this morning’s rain the temperatures today were fairly moderate, so I knew I could run this afternoon. This is really the first week in a long time that I’ve gotten three runs in, so I plotted out a flat course that was approximately 5 miles long, but I made it so that if I wanted to cut it short I could. My legs felt pretty good throughout the run and over the first 3 miles I ran at about a 9:50 pace, but on the fourth mile I was gassed so I figured that instead of pushing it to make the 5 miles, which I could have done, I decided to use the direct route home and end the run at about 4.5 miles and live to run another day! I finished at about a 10:09 pace. The sound track of the run was another blues album this one sits at number 37 on the Roots Music Report Music is Medicine from Zac Harmon. Read More
